The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Thane and Palghar, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with winds of 50-60 kmph; Mumbai is under a yellow alert.
Local authorities, including district collectors, have been authorized to cancel classes if dangerous conditions such as flooding or landslides occur in specific areas.
Heavy rain is likely to continue across Konkan, Goa, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra, with extremely heavy rain possible in ghat regions and areas like Palghar and Shahapur.
