Gurpreet Singh Bath, 27, of Yamunanagar’s Panjeton village, was killed in a Russian missile attack on a merchant vessel off the coast of Ukraine on July 19, 2026.
Singh was among 17 crew members on a Guinea-Bissau-flagged merchant vessel; four Indian sailors died in the attack.
He was the sole breadwinner for his wife, six-month-old daughter, and elderly parents, including a bedridden father.
India condemned the attack, summoned the Russian envoy, and called targeting commercial shipping and civilian crew members deplorable.
The family appealed for early repatriation of Singh's body, expected within 10 days, to perform last rites.
