Heavy rains in Pune led to evacuation of over 40 families from Ekta Nagar on Sinhagad Road after water released from Khadakwasla dam inundated the low-lying area.
Personnel from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and fire brigade evacuated residents from housing societies after water entered parking areas on Friday afternoon.
Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said all affected families were safely shifted and visited Ekta Nagar to review the situation, directing immediate relief measures.
Power supply was shut in parts of Ekta Nagar, and PMC's disaster management department activated control rooms; fire brigade teams were deployed at nine vulnerable locations.
Water Resources Department released water from Panshet, Varasgaon, and Khadakwasla dams, raising discharge from Khadakwasla into the Mutha river to 43,571 cusecs, first time this season it crossed 40,000 cusecs.
