Maharashtra Cyber registered an FIR after a BJP official alleged AI-generated videos targeting Piyush Goyal and PM Modi were circulated during student protests.
The complaint includes a manipulated video of Piyush Goyal making inflammatory remarks, and morphed images/videos of PM Modi shared on Facebook, Instagram.
The case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 318(2), 336, 352, 353(1), 353(2), 356(1), 356(2) and IT Act sections 66(D), 67.
Maharashtra Cyber is investigating to identify individuals behind the social media accounts that shared the alleged manipulated content.

Hyderabad cybercrime police filed FIRs against operators of Facebook and Instagram accounts and Meta's India head over alleged morphed content targeting PM Modi during CJP protests against exam irregularities.
The cases relate to circulation of allegedly manipulated and objectionable content on Facebook and Instagram during the protests, filed on complaints from BJP supporters.
Meta's India head was named as a co-accused under relevant provisions of the BNS and IT Act.
Police issued a notice to Meta about the cases and objectionable links, and are collecting details to identify and arrest the accused.
