Background
The Geological Survey of India (GSI), established in 1851, is one of the oldest geological surveys in the world. It operates under the Ministry of Mines and is responsible for earth science research, mineral resource assessment, and natural hazard studies. The outgoing DG, Asit Saha, served from July 2024 to July 2026.
