The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the 33rd edition of 'India Energy Statistics 2026', highlighting key energy data for 2024-25. The report shows a rise in total primary energy supply (TPES) to 39,055 petajoules and a significant increase in renewable energy capacity to 4,704,043 MW as of March 2025. The data is crucial for policy formulation and infrastructure planning.
Background
India Energy Statistics is an annual publication by MoSPI that provides comprehensive data on energy supply, consumption, and capacity. The 2026 edition includes improvements such as credit flow to the energy sector, international energy scenarios, and alignment of end-use sectors with international standards.
Key facts
India's total primary energy supply (TPES) in 2024-25 was estimated at 39,055 petajoules, up from 37,936 petajoules in 2023-24.
Total renewable energy capacity as of 31 March 2025 was estimated at 4,704,043 MW, compared to 2,109,655 MW as of 31 March 2024.
The 33rd edition of 'India Energy Statistics 2026' includes new data on credit flow to the energy sector, international energy scenarios, and international marine and aviation bunkers.
End-use sectors for all energy commodities have been aligned with international standards.
Gaps in industry-wise coal and electricity consumption data have been addressed.
The publication is shared with all states/UTs and is publicly available on the MoSPI website for research and analysis.
