The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) and the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) have signed an MoU to promote innovation, intellectual property management, technology transfer, and commercialization in Indian medicine systems. This partnership aims to bridge the gap between research and commercialization, fostering an innovation-driven ecosystem in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa.
Background
NRDC is a premier technology transfer organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology. NCISM is a statutory body under the Ministry of AYUSH, regulating institutions and practitioners of Indian medicine systems. The MoU was signed on July 23, 2026, in the presence of senior officials.

NRDC and NCISM signed an MoU to promote innovation, IP management, technology transfer, and commercialization in Indian medicine systems.
The MoU covers Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa systems.
NRDC will provide expertise in IP protection, patent and trademark facilitation, technology assessment, licensing, technology transfer, industry engagement, and commercialization.
NRDC will offer mentoring, incubation support, promote industry-sponsored research, and help develop IP management and commercialization strategies.
NCISM will facilitate interaction and collaboration between NRDC and its regulated institutions, RIED cells, and registered practitioners.
The partnership aims to convert academic and clinical research into validated products, technologies, and services for healthcare needs.
Activities include IP identification and protection, patent and trademark filing, innovation advisory, entrepreneurship development, institutional IP policy formulation, capacity building, ideathons, hackathons, technology showcases, and dissemination of success stories.
The MoU was exchanged between NRDC CMD Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd.) and NCISM Chairperson Dr. Manisha Kothekar.
