Union Minister Shri Prahlad Joshi inaugurated the Indian Standard Time (IST) Dissemination Demonstration Network based on White Rabbit Technology in Bengaluru on 16 July 2026. This network enables secure and highly accurate dissemination of IST for critical infrastructure, marking a step towards technological self-reliance and the 'One Nation, One Time' initiative.
Background
The Indian Standard Time Dissemination Project is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Consumer Affairs, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), ISRO, and other stakeholders. It aims to establish a secure, robust, and indigenous national time synchronization framework. The White Rabbit Technology, based on Precision Time Protocol (PTP), provides sub-nanosecond accuracy and is used in critical sectors like banking, telecom, power, and transport.
Key facts
The IST Dissemination Demonstration Network was inaugurated on 16 July 2026 at the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory (RRSL) in Bengaluru.
It uses White Rabbit Technology based on Precision Time Protocol (PTP) for secure dissemination of UTC(NPLI)-traceable Indian Standard Time.
The network is designed for critical sectors: banking & financial markets, telecom, power systems, transport, digital governance, and other strategic infrastructure.
Successful verification of secure IST dissemination between RRSL Bengaluru and NSE Chennai using White Rabbit Technology was completed.
The project is a joint development by the Department of Consumer Affairs, CSIR-NPL, and ISRO.
The initiative supports the government's 'One Nation, One Time' vision and contributes to consumer protection, fair trade, cybersecurity, and digital governance.
The network provides extremely accurate, secure, and reliable time synchronization.
The Minister reviewed the progress of the Indian Standard Time Dissemination Project during a visit to ISRO Bengaluru.
The project is emerging as a critical digital public infrastructure for the country.
