Why in news
The Prime Minister launched the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan' (Drug-Free Youth Campaign) via video conferencing on August 2, 2026. This initiative is part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan and aims to make India's youth drug-free, aligning with the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Background
The campaign was piloted in Kashi (Varanasi) last year, where the 'Kashi Declaration' was formulated. Over 125 spiritual organizations and various social/NGOs have joined the movement, which has now been expanded nationally.
Key facts
The campaign was launched on August 2, 2026, via video conferencing by the Prime Minister.
More than 1 crore youth from over 28,000 locations participated in the launch event.
The campaign will run for 100 weeks, with activities every Sunday focusing on art, culture, sports, meditation, spirituality, and service.
The pilot project was started in Kashi (Varanasi) last year, leading to the 'Kashi Declaration'.
Over 125 spiritual organizations and various social organizations and NGOs have joined the campaign.
The campaign aims to make youth aware of the dangers of drugs and keep them away from addiction.
