Why in news
The Ministry of Rural Development informed Rajya Sabha that under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), 92 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed, covering 10.05 crore rural women. The mission is promoting financial inclusion through financial literacy, better access to institutional credit, and micro-enterprise promotion.
Background
DAY-NRLM is a flagship poverty alleviation scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development, launched in 2011, focusing on organizing rural poor women into SHGs to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Key facts
92 lakh SHGs formed under DAY-NRLM across India.
10.05 crore rural women are members of these SHGs.
A comprehensive financial literacy program launched in partnership with RSETIs and banks.
Financial literacy camps at village level cover planning, savings, credit, insurance, pension, enterprise finance, and business correspondence.
In FY 2025-26, over 3.81 crore women SHG members received financial literacy training.
All public sector banks and one private bank have designed dedicated loan products for individual women SHG members under the Lakhpati Didi initiative.
These loans enable women to start new enterprises or expand existing ones at affordable rates.
In FY 2025-26, total turnover from marketing of products through Saras Aajeevika Stores was Rs. 2,09,69,691 and through e-commerce platforms Rs. 84,49,730.
