Key facts
Machilipatnam (BY 529) is the seventh of eight ASW SWC ships built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for the Indian Navy.
The ship was launched on 29 July 2026 by Smt. Gulrukh Anand in the presence of Vice Admiral Atul Anand, Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs.
The ship is named after the historic port city of Machilipatnam in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, known for its maritime heritage.
The vessel is equipped for underwater surveillance, anti-submarine warfare (ASW), low-intensity maritime operations (LIMO), and mine-laying.
Over 80% indigenous content makes this project a key example of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in defence manufacturing.
The ship will enhance coastal defence and maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean Region.
