TDB-DST Supports Roadgrid India for Indigenous Universal EV Charging Technology

The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has extended financial support to M/s Roadgrid India Private Limited, Indore, for the commercialization of indigenous universal EV charging technology. This initiative aims to boost domestic manufacturing of next-generation EV chargers, aligning with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and sustainable transport.
Background
India is rapidly transitioning towards electric mobility. The lack of interoperable and high-performance charging infrastructure has been a major challenge to EV adoption. The project seeks to address this by establishing a manufacturing and assembly facility for universal EV chargers that support multiple vehicle categories, reducing dependence on imported charging technologies.
Key facts
TDB-DST has provided financial assistance to Roadgrid India for a project titled 'Establishment of Manufacturing and Assembly Facility for Commercialization of Universal EV Charger'.
The project will set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing and assembly facility for commercial production of universal EV chargers for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger and commercial electric vehicles through a single integrated charging platform.
Roadgrid has developed a patented universal EV charger integrating 140 kW dual DC gun (CCS2 + Type 6) charging with AC charging capability, enabling seamless charging for a wide range of EVs.
The project includes complete manufacturing and assembly of power electronics, thermal management systems, embedded software, communication modules, metering systems, control hardware, enclosure fabrication, quality testing, calibration, and final system integration.
The manufacturing facility is designed with scalability to support future expansion into ultra-fast charging systems and integrated energy storage solutions.
Roadgrid, established in 2020, is an integrated EV charging technology company providing indigenous hardware, intelligent software platforms, and charging infrastructure services.
The project is expected to significantly enhance domestic manufacturing capacity for advanced EV charging equipment, promote import substitution in critical power electronics, and support rapid expansion of public charging infrastructure.
TDB Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak emphasized the importance of rapid expansion of reliable and interoperable charging infrastructure to accelerate electric mobility in India.
