Why in news
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment informed Rajya Sabha that under the PM-AJAY Adarsh Gram component, 47,328 villages have been selected nationwide, including 435 in Telangana. This update highlights the government's ongoing efforts for integrated development of villages with high SC population, with over 3.28 lakh development works identified and 47.59 lakh beneficiaries covered so far.
Background
PM-AJAY (Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana) is a central sector scheme aimed at socio-economic development of Scheduled Castes. The Adarsh Gram component focuses on integrated development of selected villages through convergence of central and state schemes, ensuring saturation of key socio-economic indicators.

Under PM-AJAY Adarsh Gram component, 47,328 villages selected across India, including 435 in Telangana.
The scheme covers 10 sectors including education, with 50 monitorable socio-economic indicators.
A need assessment survey is conducted to establish baseline status of indicators.
Identified gaps are addressed through convergence of central/state schemes or PM-AJAY assisted interventions.
Progress is regularly updated on PMAGY portal.
Nationwide, 3,28,131 development works and 1,10,51,213 beneficiaries identified.
So far, 46,642 development works completed, benefiting 47,59,399 beneficiaries.
In Telangana, under education sector, 3,529 beneficiaries identified, of which 472 have received benefits.
States/UTs directed to verify self-declaration letters of 'Adarsh Grams' through third-party audit.
