Why in news

The Ministry of Education provided an update on the NIPUN Bharat Mission, launched in 2021 to ensure foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) for every child by Class 2. The mission aligns with NEP 2020 and is being implemented across all states and UTs under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.

Background

NIPUN Bharat (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) was launched on 5 July 2021 by the Department of School Education and Literacy. It targets universal FLN by 2026-27, focusing on the foundational stage (ages 3-8) under the 5+3+3+4 curricular structure.
