The Ministry of Education has highlighted progress on NEP 2020 recommendations, integrating skill-based and experiential learning from Class 6 to higher education. New guidelines for Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programmes (AEDP) 2025 and digital platforms like PM e-Vidya and DIKSHA are expanding access and employability.
Background
NEP 2020 was launched to transform India's education system, emphasizing holistic, flexible, and multidisciplinary learning. It advocates skill development, experiential learning, and technology integration from school to university level.
Key facts
Skill education integrated as a regular component for Classes 6-12 under Samagra Shiksha scheme.
Pre-vocational education for Classes 6-8 includes 10 bag-less days, experiential learning, and NCERT's activity-based textbook series 'Kaushal Bodh'.
For Classes 9-12, skill courses align with National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF); at secondary level as additional subject, at senior secondary as elective.
Higher education skill-based learning supported through Community Colleges, B.Voc degree programmes, and DDU Kaushal Kendras.
UGC and AICTE issued guidelines for Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) 2025, linking academic learning with structured apprenticeship and industry experience.
Emerging fields like AI, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Quantum Tech, Space Tech, Sustainable Energy, IoT, Robotics, and Semiconductors are promoted under skill-based learning.
PM e-Vidya launched on 17 May 2020 under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, integrating digital/online/on-air education with 200 DTH TV channels and 400 radio channels.
DIKSHA platform has over 3.67 lakh contents in mother tongues/local/regional languages; 579.41 crore learning sessions completed by 2.29 crore users.
DIKSHA provides QR-coded energized textbooks for all classes and access to 836+ virtual labs.
ICT labs and smart classrooms funded under Samagra Shiksha based on state annual work plans.
