The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has outlined various industry-led initiatives under the Skill India Mission to align skill training with industry demands. This is crucial for enhancing employability and preparing youth for future job roles.

Background

The Skill India Mission was launched to skill, reskill, and upskill India's youth. MSDE implements schemes like PMKVY, JSS, NAPS, and CTS through ITIs and other institutions. The focus is now on bridging the gap between training and industry requirements.

  1. PMKVY 4.0 focuses on demand-driven skilling in emerging sectors like AI, ML, robotics, cloud computing, IoT, and green technologies.

  2. On-the-job training is promoted under PMKVY to strengthen the link between classroom learning and workplace needs.

  3. Industry experts actively participate in curriculum development to align with current market demands.

  4. The National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) has approved 10,209 qualifications, of which 2,975 are live and active.

  5. 36 Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) led by industry leaders identify skill needs and set competency standards.

  6. India has signed MoUs/MoCs with 14 countries for aligning skilling efforts with global requirements.

  8. Flexi MoU scheme and Dual System of Training (DST) are implemented to train ITI students in industrial environments.

  9. DGT has signed MoUs with IT tech companies like IBM, Cisco, Future Skill Rights Network, AWS, and Microsoft under CSR initiatives for industry linkage.
