The Patna High Court, in an order dated July 9, 2026, quashed a man's conviction for attempt to rape, ruling that the acts amounted only to outraging a woman's modesty. The Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of this and similar orders from the Allahabad High Court, which had previously made controversial observations in sexual offence cases.
