Why in news

The National Medical Commission has delegated the power to decide faculty appointments and promotions to medical colleges themselves, ending routine eligibility clearances. This change aims to reduce unnecessary referrals and improve institutional accountability. Applicants dissatisfied with decisions can seek a review within 30 days.

Background

Previously, many faculty members, medical colleges, and hospitals routinely referred eligibility cases to the NMC even when clear regulations existed. The Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025 already laid down detailed requirements for teaching posts.
