The Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers informed the Lok Sabha about the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) in a written reply. This highlights the government's focus on pharmaceutical education and research, and the statutory status of these institutes.
Background
The first NIPER was established in Mohali, Punjab, as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It was later granted statutory status by the NIPER Act, 1998. In 2007, the Act was amended to establish six more NIPERs across India.

Currently, there are seven NIPERs in India.

All seven NIPERs are declared as Institutes of National Importance under the NIPER Act, 1998.
