Why in news

In a Lok Sabha reply on 30 July 2026, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uike provided details on TRIFED's procurement of minor forest produce (MFP) under the PM-JANMAN scheme. The data reveals significant unsold stock worth ₹5,944.57 lakh, with over 50% being more than three years old, highlighting challenges in market linkage and value addition.

Background

TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India) is the nodal agency under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for marketing tribal products. The PM-JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) scheme aims to improve livelihoods of tribal communities through marketing support, including procurement of MFP, handicrafts, and natural products.
