The central government has released an advance instalment of tax devolution amounting to ₹1,09,019 crore to states on 1 August 2026, ahead of the regular monthly transfer due on 10 August 2026. This move is aimed at strengthening states' financial position and accelerating their capital and developmental expenditure.
Background
Under Article 280 of the Constitution, the Finance Commission recommends the distribution of net proceeds of taxes between the Union and states. The central government typically releases tax devolution in monthly instalments. Advance releases are sometimes made to help states manage their cash flows and boost spending.
