Why in news
The National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) has recognised NITTTR Kolkata as a dual certification awarding body. This enables NITTTR Kolkata to award, assess, and certify qualifications for learners trained in its own or fully managed campuses. The first approved course is 'Fundamentals of Soil Testing', aimed at meeting skilled manpower demand in construction and infrastructure sectors.
Background
NITTTR Kolkata is an institute under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, focused on technical teacher training and research. NCVET is the apex regulator for vocational education and training in India, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

The MoU signing ceremony was chaired by Shri Niranjan Kumar Sudhanshu, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Executive Member of NCVET.
Other attendees included Lt Col Vikram Singh Bhati (Director Accreditation, NCVET), Lt Col Saurabh S Bisht (Director Monitoring, NCVET), Prof. VMSR Murthy (Director, NITTTR Kolkata), and Prof. Naveen BP (Professor and Head, NITTTR Kolkata).
