Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh emphasised the need to professionalise municipal administration through research, capacity building and financial reforms. An MoU was signed between IIPA and ICAI to strengthen municipal accounting and financial management.
Background
Municipal bodies in India face challenges in financial management and governance. The MoU between IIPA (Indian Institute of Public Administration) and ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) aims to combine IIPA's expertise in governance with ICAI's professional accounting capabilities.

Dr Jitendra Singh called for evidence-based decision making, professional capacity building and sound financial management at grassroots level.
MoU signed between Centre for Urban Studies (CUS) of IIPA and ICAI for municipal capacity building and financial management reforms.
The collaboration aims to combine IIPA's expertise in governance, research and public administration with ICAI's professional capabilities in accounting, audit and public financial management.
MoU establishes framework for research, capacity building, training, advisory services and technical assistance.
Joint activities include policy research, surveys, documentation, training programmes, workshops, seminars, conferences and webinars.
The partnership will leverage nationwide networks of IIPA and ICAI to reach municipalities across India.
Initial validity of MoU is three years.
