Why in news

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has established streamlined mechanisms to ensure timely collection and publication of official statistics. This was informed in a Lok Sabha reply by Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on July 22, 2026.

Background

MoSPI is responsible for compiling and publishing official statistics in India, including national sample surveys, consumer price index (CPI), index of industrial production (IIP), and national accounts statistics (NAS).

  5. IIP data collected by 21st of each month; follow-up actions improve timeliness and response rates.
