Why in news

The 136th meeting of the Enforcement Task Force (ETF) under the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) was held on 31 July 2026 to review enforcement actions, compliance status, and sector-specific inspections in the National Capital Region (NCR). The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to curb air pollution through strict enforcement and inspections.

Background

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) was constituted to tackle air pollution in the NCR. The Enforcement Task Force (ETF) is a body under CAQM that conducts inspections and enforcement actions against polluting units.

  7. Cumulative enforcement status (as of 31 July 2026): 28,084 units/projects inspected, 1,805 closure directions issued, 1,456 resumption orders issued, 126 cases transferred to SPCBs/DPCC, and 223 entities under trial for resumption.

  8. Road inspections: 106 road segments (about 38 km) inspected in Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram. Ghaziabad had full end-to-end paving in all 42 segments; Faridabad had 38 out of 50; Gurugram had 11 out of 14.

  9. Municipal corporations were directed to take corrective measures as per the standard framework.

  10. The Commission emphasized strengthening enforcement, timely compliance verification, and better coordination among implementing agencies.
