UPSC / SSC current affairs note · IR
Why in news
The Ministry of Power has released the draft Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE-III) norms for 2027, inviting stakeholder comments. This is significant as it sets stricter fuel efficiency standards for passenger vehicles in India from 2027-28 to 2031-32, impacting automakers and consumers.
Background
CAFE norms were introduced in India to reduce fuel consumption and emissions from vehicles. The first phase (CAFE-I) came into effect in 2017, followed by CAFE-II from 2022. CAFE-III proposes even tighter targets to align with India's climate commitments.
Key facts
Draft CAFE-III norms released by Ministry of Power for stakeholder consultation.
