Background
CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) is a premier national laboratory dedicated to road and transport research. The project aligns with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) framework to combat air pollution in the National Capital Region.

CSIR-CRRI flagged off an indigenous Network Survey Vehicle (NSV) for urban road monitoring.
The NSV is equipped with high-speed laser profiling, UHD imaging, GPS/GNSS positioning, automated surface distress mapping, and AI-enabled data analysis.
The vehicle will conduct comprehensive condition assessment of urban roads in Delhi NCR.
Field surveys began for the project 'Implementation of Standard Framework for Pavement and Greenery on Urban Roads in Delhi NCR'.
The project is implemented by CSIR-CRRI in collaboration with PWD Delhi under an MoU.
The project follows the CAQM framework to reduce dust pollution and improve urban road infrastructure.
Key activities include developing local standards, reducing road dust through roadside greenery, implementing Road Asset Management System (RAMS), and promoting innovative construction techniques.
The NSV enables rapid, non-contact evaluation of road condition, roughness, surface distress, drainage, and roadside assets with minimal traffic disruption.
Data from surveys will help prioritize maintenance, design standard pavements, improve drainage, enhance safety, and monitor road conditions effectively.
The initiative is expected to reduce fugitive dust emissions and promote sustainable urban mobility in Delhi NCR.
