Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab on July 17, 2026, to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth over ₹26,800 crore. A key highlight is the flagging off of India's first hydrogen train between Jind and Sonipat, marking a major step in clean energy transport.
Background
India has been promoting green hydrogen under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Hydrogen trains are part of efforts to decarbonize railways, with the Indian Railways aiming to become a net-zero carbon emitter by 2030.
Key facts
PM Modi will flag off India's first hydrogen train between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana on July 17.
The hydrogen train is indigenously designed, engineered, and integrated, with 10 coaches and a 3,200 HP propulsion system.
It uses hydrogen fuel cell technology, producing only water vapor as a byproduct, resulting in zero carbon emissions.
The train does not require overhead electrification, reducing infrastructure costs.
PM will lay foundation stones and dedicate projects worth about ₹14,700 crore in Jind, including national highway projects.
In Chandigarh, projects worth over ₹6,600 crore will be inaugurated, including an advanced maternal and child center and neuroscience center at PGIMER.
In Jalandhar, rail and road infrastructure projects worth over ₹5,470 crore will be inaugurated.
PM will dedicate the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway packages 1-6, a 157.92 km four-lane access-controlled highway built at ₹9,680 crore.
75 redeveloped Amrit Bharat Railway Stations across 20 states will be inaugurated.
A Sikh museum dedicated to Sikh Gurus' heritage will be laid foundation in Kurukshetra.
