TRAI organized a workshop to train audit firms for improving audit quality in the Digital Addressable System (DAS) ecosystem. This is part of recent regulatory amendments effective from April 1, 2026, aimed at enhancing transparency and compliance in television broadcasting distribution.
Background
The Digital Addressable System (DAS) in India is a framework for television broadcasting that enables targeted delivery of channels. TRAI regulates the sector and mandates audits of Distribution Platform Operators (DPOs) to ensure compliance with technical and commercial requirements.

TRAI held a one-day workshop on July 31, 2026, at its headquarters in New Delhi for listed audit firms on DAS audits.
The workshop saw participation from 81 in-person and 52 online attendees, including auditors, broadcasters, and distribution platform operators.
Amendments to the Interconnection Regulation and Audit Manual were issued this year, effective from April 1, 2026.
Audits will now be based on the financial year instead of the previous calendar year.
Distributors must complete audits and submit reports to broadcasters by September 30 each year.
Broadcasters can appoint representatives during audits and seek clarifications from auditors via DPOs if discrepancies are found.
If broadcasters are unsatisfied with clarifications, they can get an audit done at their own expense with TRAI's approval.
If a broadcaster does not receive an audit report by September 30, they can get the distributor audited.
DPOs with fewer than 30,000 subscribers are exempt from mandatory annual audits, but broadcasters can still audit them at their own cost.
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti emphasized that audits ensure DPO systems comply with technical requirements and verify accuracy of commercial reports.
