The CapaCITIES programme marked its decade-long progress with an event in New Delhi on 14 July 2026, launching three knowledge products. It has supported India's net-zero 2070 target by mainstreaming low-carbon and climate-resilient urban development in Indian cities.

Background

CapaCITIES (Capacity Building on Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Urban Development in India) is a project funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in India and Bhutan, started in 2016. It is implemented by ICLEI South Asia, South Pole, and Econcept, with the National Institute of Urban Affairs as knowledge partner. The programme assisted eight cities: Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Udaipur, and Siliguri, along with state governments of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
