Why in news

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh informed Lok Sabha on 21 July 2026 about the progress of the SVAMITVA scheme, including completion of drone surveys in 3.30 lakh villages and issuance of 3.24 crore property cards. An impact evaluation by IIM Ahmedabad showed significant increase in bank loans and panchayat revenues post-implementation.

Background

SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme was launched by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj to provide property rights to rural households using drone-based mapping and CORS technology.
