The ban comes after a Karnataka-wide inspection campaign last month that covered 134 schools, colleges, and food business establishments. Officials found several vendors selling HFSS food items near educational institutions and in canteens. The advisory notes that such food items can lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar levels. The move is also in line with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, under which violators will face action.
