The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts major exams like NEET-UG, JEE, and UGC-NET, has only 24 permanent officials against 197 contractual and outsourced personnel. This information was disclosed by the government in Rajya Sabha, raising concerns about the agency's staffing stability and capacity.
Background
NTA was established in 2017 as a premier testing agency to conduct entrance examinations for higher education institutions. Since 2018, it has handled over 6.6 crore candidate registrations and conducted more than 270 exams.

Contractual staff: 73 people including 44 consultants, 17 young professionals, 5 senior consultants, 3 advisers, and 1 senior software developer.
Outsourced staff: 124 people including data analysts, consultants, legal associates, and housekeeping staff.
16 additional senior posts (8 Director and 8 Joint Director levels) have been created.
NTA has conducted over 270 exams since 2018 and handled over 6.6 crore candidate registrations.
