The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) celebrated its 56th Foundation Day, with the Union Textile Minister reiterating the government's commitment to transforming the cotton ecosystem. Key facts
CCI completed one of its largest MSP procurement campaigns in 2025-26, purchasing over 522 lakh quintals of seed cotton through about 24 lakh farmer transactions, with ₹41,530 crore directly transferred to farmers' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
For cotton season 2026-27, the MSP for seed cotton has been increased by about 7%.
The Cotton Productivity Mission - 'Kappas Kanti' has been approved with an outlay of ₹5,659 crore over five years to boost productivity, modernize processing infrastructure, promote branding via Kasturi Cotton India, and encourage sustainable climate-resilient farming.
'Kappas Darshan' bulletin was launched to provide timely advisories to cotton farmers on weather, market, scientific practices, quality management, and government initiatives.
Modern farm equipment including cotton pickers, stalk shredders, and contamination control kits were distributed to farmers and FPOs.
Four MoUs were signed: CCI with ICAR-CIRCOT for capacity building and quality improvement in ginning and pressing; CCI with GIZ for market access via Kasturi Cotton India; and CITI, ICAC, and Mera (incomplete in source).
The event was held in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with state ministers and officials present.
