The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) recently approved the Kanpur-Kabrai (4/6 lane access-controlled) highway, a greenfield project under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). It is a key part of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor, aimed at boosting logistics, industrial connectivity, and market access for farmers in Bundelkhand.

Bundelkhand is a mineral-rich and agricultural region in central India, but it has faced connectivity challenges. The Kanpur-Kabrai highway is designed to link mining areas, industrial clusters, and agricultural zones with major consumption centers, reducing travel time and logistics costs.
Key facts
The Kanpur-Kabrai highway is a 117.7 km greenfield, access-controlled 4/6 lane project.
Estimated cost is ₹7,145 crore, built by NHAI under MoRTH.
It is a critical component of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor.
Travel time between Kanpur and Kabrai will reduce from ~3.5 hours to ~1.5 hours.
The highway will connect Kabrai mining area (a major source of minerals in north India) to Kanpur and Bhopal.
It aims to reduce freight costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and boost investment and employment.
Farmers will benefit from faster transport of perishable goods, reduced post-harvest losses, and better market access.
