World's Largest Yogurt Plant Launched Under Amul Bengal Dairy Project

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the world's largest yogurt production plant in Kolkata under the Amul Bengal Dairy Project. This marks a significant step in expanding the cooperative dairy sector in West Bengal and advancing the 'White Revolution 2.0' vision.
Background
The Amul Bengal Dairy Project is part of the central government's efforts to strengthen the cooperative sector and boost dairy development in West Bengal. The state has historically been a major milk producer but faced challenges due to political and administrative issues. The project aims to integrate local dairy farmers into the Amul network, ensuring better prices and market access.
Key facts
The plant will process 10 lakh liters of milk daily and benefit 1.20 lakh dairy farmers.
The facility is being set up on 30 acres of land provided free of cost by West Bengal's Cooperation Minister Shubhendu Adhikari.
Amul returns 87 paise of every rupee spent by consumers directly to dairy farmers.
The project includes a sex-sorted semen facility to improve cattle breed in Bengal.
Over 70 farmer welfare schemes of the Cooperation Ministry will be delivered to Bengal farmers within six months.
A MoU has been signed under the 'Sarthi' concept to link Bengal taxis with Bharat Taxi, making drivers owners of both vehicles.
The plant will produce 'Mishit Doi' (sweet yogurt) for distribution across India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
The project aligns with PM Modi's vision of 'Sahkar se Samriddhi' (Prosperity through Cooperation) and 'White Revolution 2.0'.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 19, 2026, in Kolkata's New Town Convention Centre.
