The Indian Railways has approved a ₹976 crore multitracking project on the 29 km Danapur-Fatuha section of East Central Railway in Bihar. This will decongest one of the busiest sections of the Patna rail corridor and boost passenger and freight services.
Background
The project is part of a larger initiative to introduce quadruple rail facilities on the Delhi-Howrah route via Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Patna, Kiul, Bhagalpur, and Khanna. The section falls under the Indian Railways' Energy, Mineral, and Cement Corridor.

The project covers the 29 km Danapur-Fatuha section of East Central Railway in Bihar.
The approved cost is ₹976 crore.
It includes three components: third and fourth lines between Danapur and Patna, third line between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Sahib, and third and fourth lines between Patna Sahib and Fatuha.
In the first year of operation, it will enable 22 additional passenger trains and 18 additional freight trains per day.
It will add 52 lakh tonnes of freight capacity per year.

The section is crucial for the proposed 2120 MW thermal power plant at Chausa in Buxar district, which will rely on rail transport for raw materials.
