Why in news

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the quarterly update of the PAIMANA Performance Monitoring Dashboard for infrastructure sectors. This update expands the dashboard to 165 indicators, adding 44 new ones, and provides timely data for evidence-based policy making.

Background

The PAIMANA (Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring & Analysis for Nation Building) dashboard was launched on 16 April 2026 to monitor infrastructure performance across key sub-sectors. It uses a standardized framework covering five dimensions: access, quality, fiscal cost & revenue, usage, and affordability.

  7. Railways: average broad gauge wagon capacity rose to 64.0 tonnes per wagon in 2024-25 (from 60.8 in 2015-16); average daily passengers reached 19.98 million in 2024-25 (5.8% annual growth).

  8. Energy sector: significant expansion potential in battery energy storage systems (BESS) and pumped storage.

  9. The dashboard provides interactive visualizations and time-series analysis for better data interpretation.

  10. Data is sourced from respective ministries/departments and is publicly accessible.
