Why in news
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the quarterly update of the PAIMANA Performance Monitoring Dashboard for infrastructure sectors. This update expands the dashboard to 165 indicators, adding 44 new ones, and provides timely data for evidence-based policy making.
Background
The PAIMANA (Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring & Analysis for Nation Building) dashboard was launched on 16 April 2026 to monitor infrastructure performance across key sub-sectors. It uses a standardized framework covering five dimensions: access, quality, fiscal cost & revenue, usage, and affordability.
Key facts
The PAIMANA dashboard now includes 165 performance indicators across six infrastructure sub-sectors.
44 new indicators were added in the latest quarterly update (as of 16 July 2026).
Civil aviation: freight in April 2026 was 98,920.10 tonnes, an 11.8% increase year-on-year; airports increased to 165 (81 more than in 2014).
Telecom: wireless/mobile data consumption in FY2025-26 reached 2,85,376 PB (24.7% growth); telephone subscribers rose to 133.06 crore in FY2025-26 from 120.17 crore in FY2024-25 (10.7% growth).
Road transport: 9,360 km of national highways constructed in FY2025-26.
Ports, shipping & waterways: non-major ports handled 2.06 crore passenger traffic in FY2024-25; coastal cargo at major ports increased to 196,808.7 thousand tonnes (3.09% annual growth).
Railways: average broad gauge wagon capacity rose to 64.0 tonnes per wagon in 2024-25 (from 60.8 in 2015-16); average daily passengers reached 19.98 million in 2024-25 (5.8% annual growth).
Energy sector: significant expansion potential in battery energy storage systems (BESS) and pumped storage.
The dashboard provides interactive visualizations and time-series analysis for better data interpretation.
