India successfully exported 12.5 tonnes of Dasheri and Langra mangoes to Dubai via sea route using a jointly developed protocol by ICAR-CISH and APEDA. This marks the first commercial sea shipment of these varieties from Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating cost-effective export potential and boosting farmer incomes.
Background
Traditionally, Indian mango exports rely on costly air freight. The sea route protocol aims to reduce logistics costs and expand market access, especially for perishable fruits. ICAR-CISH, Lucknow, and APEDA developed this protocol to maintain fruit quality during longer transit.

12.5 tonnes of Dasheri and Langra mangoes exported from Amroha, UP to Dubai via sea in a 40-ft reefer container.
Export used the sea route protocol jointly developed by ICAR-CISH (Lucknow) and APEDA.
Shipment by Shahnaaz Export in collaboration with Attashi Global to UAE's Lulu Group.
Mangoes harvested on 22 June 2026, treated with Metwash (ICAR-CISH developed) to extend shelf life.
Transit took 25 days (harvest to market) due to western disturbance delay; arrived 17 July 2026.
About 90% of mangoes were in good and saleable condition upon arrival.
Farmers received ₹15-20 per kg extra income compared to traditional export channels.
First successful commercial sea shipment of Dasheri and Langra mangoes from UP to Dubai.
Sea freight is significantly cheaper than air freight, making exports more affordable.
Expected to boost mango exports from UP and other states to Gulf and international markets.
