Why in news
The Minister of State for Food Processing Industries informed Lok Sabha about the progress of PMKSY. As of June 30, 2026, the scheme has benefited 37.76 lakh farmers and created 9.16 lakh jobs, strengthening food processing infrastructure.
Background
PMKSY (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana) is a central sector scheme under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. It aims to create modern food processing infrastructure, promote value addition, generate employment, and provide better remuneration to farmers.
Key facts
As of June 30, 2026, 1,735 projects were approved under PMKSY, of which 1,256 were completed.
The completed projects have created a processing and preservation capacity of 294.21 lakh metric tonnes per year.
The scheme has generated 9.16 lakh employment opportunities across the country.
Approximately 37.76 lakh farmers have been benefitted from the scheme.
PMKSY is a demand-driven scheme; applications are invited from across the country.
No state-wise funds are allocated; eligible proposals are approved based on merit and fund availability.
Financial assistance is provided as grant/subsidy for establishing modern food processing and preservation infrastructure.
Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) receive higher financial assistance and relaxed eligibility conditions compared to general applicants.
Under PMFME scheme, FPOs can get 35% credit-linked subsidy up to Rs 10 lakh for micro food processing units, and up to 50% grant for branding and marketing.
The scheme aims to reduce post-harvest losses and increase demand for agricultural produce.
