Why in news

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the world's largest yogurt production plant in Kolkata on July 19, 2026. The plant, part of the Amul Bengal Dairy project, will process 30 lakh litres of milk daily and produce 10 lakh kg of yogurt and other cultured dairy products. This initiative aligns with PM Modi's vision of 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi' and White Revolution 2.0.

Background

Amul has been expanding its cooperative network in West Bengal, currently collecting about 9 lakh litres of milk daily from over 1.25 lakh dairy farmers, including more than 30,000 women. The new plant aims to modernize processing, value addition, and marketing in the state's dairy sector.

  7. Amit Shah will also launch the e-RCS portal for digital registration and administration of cooperative societies.

  8. He will lay the foundation for 14 storage godowns with total capacity of 1,400 metric tonnes across 10 districts, costing ₹5.98 crore.

  9. He will inaugurate two godowns of 100 metric tonnes each in South 24 Parganas and Cooch Behar, built at a cost of ₹73.61 lakh.

  10. An MoU between Bharat Taxi and West Bengal's DoIT&E will be exchanged for expanding mobility services in the state.
