The bilateral meeting between Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Panama's Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha Vasquez identified maritime security, logistics, skills, and digital transformation as key pillars of cooperation.

India and Panama have shared maritime relations since the 19th century. The Indian community in Panama has significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral ties. Panama is a strategic gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, while India is emerging as a global leader in ports and shipping.

Four priority areas outlined: maritime security, technical cooperation between India's Directorate General of Shipping and Panama Maritime Authority, maritime education and skill development, and digital maritime transformation including AI, smart port logistics, and maritime single-window system.
India proposed expediting negotiations on a bilateral agreement on maritime transport and port development, cooperation in green ship recycling, seafarer welfare and skill development, and collaboration in port modernization, warehousing, digital innovation, and maritime infrastructure.
India invited Panama's Minister for Maritime Affairs to India Maritime Week 2026 in New Delhi.
Both sides agreed to advance discussions through strong institutional partnership.
Minister Sonowal highlighted India's transformation under PM Modi in ports, shipping, inland waterways, logistics, shipbuilding, cruise tourism, and green maritime initiatives.
Panama is one of the world's leading maritime logistics hubs.
