Background
PMKSY is a central sector scheme launched in 2017-18 by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. It aims to develop integrated food processing and preservation infrastructure across the value chain from farm to retail.

The scheme has created processing and preservation capacity of 294.21 lakh metric tonnes per year.

PMKSY provides financial assistance as grant/subsidy for modern food processing and preservation infrastructure.
The scheme includes six ongoing component schemes and two closed components (closed from 01.04.2021).
PMKSY is demand-driven and invites applications through Expression of Interest (EOI) from eligible applicants including FPOs.
FPOs receive enhanced financial assistance and reduced asset exemption compared to general category applicants.
Under PMKSY, funds are not allocated state-wise; it is demand-based.
The scheme aims to boost exports of processed food products.
