Why in news
India is set to receive France's response on a proposed deal for 114 Rafale fighter jets by mid-August. If approved, this would significantly boost India's Rafale fleet, which currently stands at 62 aircraft ordered for the Indian Air Force and Navy.
Background
India has already ordered 36 Rafale jets for the Indian Air Force (delivered) and 26 for the Indian Navy (under negotiation). The new proposal for 114 jets is part of India's Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) program to strengthen air combat capabilities.
