Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Viksit Bharat ke liye Nasha Mukt Yuva Sankalp Abhiyan' (Drug-Free Youth Resolution Campaign for Developed India) on August 2, 2026. The campaign aims to mobilize youth against drug abuse and is a significant step towards the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
Background
The campaign was initially started as a pilot project in Kashi (Varanasi) last year, with the Kashi Declaration involving over 125 spiritual organizations and NGOs. It has now been expanded to a national level.
Key facts
The campaign is a 100-week initiative, with each Sunday dedicated to a step towards a drug-free India.
Over 1 crore youth joined the launch via video conference from more than 28,000 locations.
The campaign emphasizes physical and mental health of youth as essential for a developed India.
Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted that MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat) platform has over 2.23 crore youth registered.
The campaign is inspired by the Prime Minister's call for a drug-free India from the Red Fort.
The Kashi Declaration laid the foundation for a nationwide people's movement against substance abuse.
Governors of 26 states and Chief Ministers of 11 states participated in the launch.
The campaign is not just about individual health but also about family, society, and national interests.
